I have written about the stray cats/kittens in our neighborhood and how my nephews and nieces treated them. By the grace of God they learned how to daily give mercy to them. They named the kittens: Panda, Cutie, and Wolfie.
The kittens must have thought they were adopted by the kids, so, they stay daily outside the door of our apartment. Wolfie being the most domesticated is unruffled by our footsteps and scolding, he would lazily nap or sit almost at all times outside our door.
One day, I was so pestered by the little mice running back and forth our sink. I tried to catch them with a cloth but they ran down sink to the cabinet to the floor and then hid at the back side of the unplug refrigerator. I weighed my options: (1) I could use barbecue sticks to stake those little pests; or (2) I would let them be eaten by any of the kittens.
The thought of "hearing those little mice squeak while their blood are oozing" was too morbid. (I think my brain tricked me to believe I am as agile as those mice, so, I can really stake them with barbecue sticks.) So, I opted to disturb the lazy nap of Wolfie, scooped him with my two hands and placed him right where the mice were and told him to eat the mice. After all, my "smart" brain knew the fact that cats eat mice.
Poor Wolfie, clueless of human words and what I commanded him, meowed, stop a second or two near the refrigerator and then ran straight out of the door! The mice might have laughed very hard and relieved that my chosen exterminator ran out of the door! The mice got another day to live and to pester. Thanks to the brave and kindhearted Wolfie!
(Stop laughing now. Enough. )
Out of the funny incident, I came up with an analogy to spiritual life.
The mice are the problems in life and Wolfie is the "brave and kindhearted" me. LOL!
If I don't know that I'm supposed or made to crush all these mice, I would let some of them alive and not deal with them as I must.
As a follower of Jesus, when a problem arise, I must not point a finger on God and say he made me suffer.
I must stay silent, reflect, and humbly ask God: "Lord please reveal the root cause of this." The root cause could be me or could be outside my scope of influence. Whatever the root cause maybe any problem were meant to deepen my relationship with GOD.
Most often than not, GOD reveal the root cause(s).
"Daughter, I want you to give up that mindset and replace it with this mindset."
"My little brat! Stop! Many serpents ahead! Follow me, go this way!"
"Girl! I've been trying to tell you this but you are too busy to listen."
"Can't you show mercy the same way I show mercy?"
"Rest. I'll fight for you. Let them try to fight me."
"Wait. I'm cooking something great for you."
"Act by my grace."
What am I really trying to say is that this Christian life will never be without problems here on earth.
Mice are everywhere! (When you kill one mouse, another one comes your way! Sometimes, the world just rain mice! Poor us! )
BUT, as a Christian, I should see it differently. I must first ask: "LORD how would this problem bring me one step closer to you?"
Just ask God and if you only listen, you would hear his answer.
